Sunrise (20 Years)

Twenty years ago today (Mother's Day 1995), I lost my mother to drug addiction. It's impossible to fathom the ways my life has been altered as a result, but through the strength of my family (especially my father), I have become the man you see before you. I have learned to overcome insecurity and fear from the incredible love of those that constantly surround me. Don't ever underestimate the role you play in someone else's life...love and be loved. ~Liam

One Spark Video w/Behind The Scenes Studio Footage

Happy New Year friends and family! I've got a lot to be thankful for in the new year and it starts with you!!! Yeah, I know it's not nice to point but I'm doing it anyway! You deserve some credit! Thank you for being there in 2013, and hang on to your undies for what's coming in 2014!

I won't give the full surprise away until I go live later today on Renegade Radio (link at bottom), but you get a taste right now! Remember that song "One Spark" I've been playing for the last 3 years or so? It's been a fan favorite for a while and now it's all recorded and ready to be put in your ear!

"One Spark" is the first single off my new album The Key To Happiness due out in March/April. During the recording process, we had a lot of fun luckily we filmed some of it. Our goofiness is displayed for all to see in this video so ENJOY!!!

*I play live in the studio from 11:30am-12noon with fellow singer/songwriter Craig Prather at 4001 S. Virginia Street in Reno if you can make it in person.

**I will play 3-5 songs throughout the talk show from 12-3pm and you can tune in here if you are outside of Northern Nevada. (Link below)

Day 32 - Backbone - The Chuck Ragan Story

This song has a really cool story. You know, the kind of story where you meet your hero, acquire their guitar, and write a song to commemorate what their music has meant to you. Normal everyday stuff.

After a few run-ins at Boise’s River City Guitars, I have long since decided that I wanted to buy an Eastman guitar for their sound, quality, and price-point.  As far as I’m concerned it doesn’t get much better!

So I did a little research. I looked for new and used just to see what was out there from this relatively obscure guitar company. I could never have fathomed what I would find.

On Ebay, I found “somebody” selling a Chuck Ragan signature model guitar – only 12 ever made. They lived in Grass Valley, CA and I remember thinking to myself, “Chuck lives in Grass Valley…” So I inquired into what that person was selling…nothing but music equipment and carpentry tools. So I said to myself, “Chuck was a carpenter before he was a musician…” See where this is going?

So I contacted Chuck and, coincidentally, had already planned to go camping right outside Grass Valley the following weekend.  Instead of purchasing the guitar on Ebay, Chuck and I shared a pint of Guinness at a local pub and chatted for an hour before we eventually shared a couple songs outside his tour bus, and I went home with what is now my favorite guitar!

Originally called “The Hammer Song,” this was the first song I wrote on my (then) new Eastman guitar. While hammers very little to do with the lyrics, I called it “The Hammer Song” because the guitar has a beautiful hammer inlay on the 12th fret - and you can see it in this video if you look close! Basically the song is about mediocre work experiences and following your passion, whatever it might be! So cheers to Chuck, for inspiring me to chase what it is that I love!

Day 16 - Arkansas & Flame Of Love

Three days down on our trip across the country, and boy do we get to spend it in good company! Colleen and I got into Conway, Arkansas and received nothing but southern hospitality!

Good friends Paul and Tessa Schwering drove in from Little Rock to have a fun-filled food extravaganza at John and Beverley Bergstrom's house! There really is nothing like spending quality time with good people and we got lucky!

If you don't know my background with the Bergstroms, I have been incredibly good friends with their daughter Natalie for over a decade now. She and I are so close actually, that I wrote and performed a song at her wedding called "Flame Of Love."

One of the most beautiful and meaningful songs that I think I've ever written, "Flame Of Love" is a tribute to Natalie and Jade King at the very moment they lit their unity candle and began their lives for each other. This is among the most incredible things I've ever been a part of, and to these great people I raise my glass and sing! Cheers!

Day 3 - Tracking Vocals for "One Spark"

Back in the studio to record vocals for the first song I ever wrote on guitar! The lyrics for "One Spark" came from a poem I wrote my sophomore year in high school that for some reason, I held on to. In 2010 I took that poem and merged it with an event that had me pretty shaken up at the time. Someone close to me was in an abusive relationship, and I swore that I would never tolerate that if I saw it and NEVER be that way! I declared "I give love because love is what I've found!" I meant it then, and I mean it now as we dig deep into this track with heartful singing and multi-layered harmonies by the talented Leify Green!
