Failure Machine - Get It!

Meet Spencer on guitar; No really...find him and meet him! I can't say enough about this guy, as he is one of the most genuine individuals I have ever met!

Spencer is just one half of Failure Machine, with his counterpart Clint Philbin right behind him on drums. These guys are self proclaimed "garage soul," and absolute bad-asses at what they do.

You may recall a little video I posted a while back with Spencer, which was half ridiculousness and half God-like guitar playing. Not only did Spencer play on my upcoming album, but his band Failure Machine just recorded and released their new EP, available on Bandcamp for any amount of money you want to throw at them....

Seriously. Go check them out. Find out where they're playing next on the west coast and feast your ears.

Day 29 - Spencer Kilpatrick - Electric Guitar

Only 6 days left in the campaign and we just hit the $5000 mark! True to my word on Facebook, I just edited and released some behind the scenes footage from the studio that I want to share with you!

Spencer Kilpatrick is just one of many special guests I've had the pleasure to work with on this album. He is the guitarist and singer of Failure Machine, the world's grossest soul band! While I didn't know it at the time he tracked guitar, Spencer has an incredibly deep, soulful voice that could soothe a screaming baby. No I haven't tested this hypothesis, but nonetheless I believe it to true!

Watch the new video to see that this isn't just a folk record...it's a folk ROCK record!

Please remember to share my Indiegogo link with anyone who likes music or supports dreams! Word of mouth is always the best way to spread news, so please join me in this...thank you so much for reading!

Day 27 - Mel Wade & Kate-Elaine Anderson - Harmony Vocals

I met miss Mel Wade about a year and a half ago at Great Basin Brewery by random chance. The next weekend I saw her play the big Made In Reno show, and we literally started planning a tour of the west coast together right then and there, just like that! She had never even seen me play live yet! But then again, maybe I'm just that damn persuasive! ;)

So tour we did! From Reno to Seattle and back we sung our hearts out to anyone who would listen! On that same tour we eventually picked up some straggler in Tacoma, Washington by the name of Green...really cool dude, but that's a whole other story!

Mel and I started a bond that I hope with all my heart will never break, because of what this girl means to me. She exudes light and love with every breath. And the world is a much better place with her in it.

Then there's our three way intersection with Army Chief Warrent Officer Kate-Elaine Anderson. I met Kate at Swill Coffee for their Songwriters In The Round showcase a month before we were slated to play it together. I befriended Kate before I knew this, telling her that she looks just like my cousin Kate...AND that strangely enough they have the same name! In an awkward moment, I had to explain that this was not a pick up line for obvious reasons. What a great way to start a friendship! Haha!

When Kate and I did play the Songwriters showcase the next month, Mel Wade (and Tovah Goodman, my videographer) shared the bill with us. Without any intervention from me, Mel and Kate gravitated towards each others music. Within a short period of time, they began writing some beautiful songs together which have since captured the heart of the whole town!

I'm proud to say that these girls have done an amazing job on my new record! Their hearts are solid gold, and their harmonies are angelic to say the least! Keep an eye out for some new songs by Mel and Kate in the near future, because really good things are coming!!!

Day 24 - Eric Andersen - Keys & Arrangement

One of the most talented artists I’ve ever had the pleasure of hearing, Eric Andersen is one fourth of Reno supergroup The Novelists. From his exceptional piano and string compositions to his undeniable vocal ability, Eric is one of the best in the business.

I recruited Mr. Andersen to write a string quartet for “Don’t Call Me Charlie,” a song which he also played the Hammond organ.  Eric wrote and composed parts for a string quartet as he helped craft a powerful ending to an emotionally charged song.

Already a stand-out track on the record, Eric has brought “Charlie” to new heights! To hear Eric’s contribution, be sure to pre-order my new album The Key To Happiness from the link below!

Day 8 - Until Next Time

After six days of hard work and good times in the studio, Leify Green is returning back home…to the road. He’s got shows back in DC and Baltimore before heading off for a big gig in Texas, and then back to Seattle. It’s in Seattle that Leify plans to record his next full length album and mark my words, this songwriting nomad is going to do big things in this life.

Day 4 - Leify Green - Vocals & Co-Production

Meet international touring artist Leify Green. Best-known for his involvement in the West Coast Swing dance community and for his creative acoustic arrangements of popular songs, Leify is the newest addition to the incredible team of musicians playing on my upcoming album The Key To Happiness.

I should never have met Leify Green. Not that I wouldn't have wanted to, but the likelihood was just so low! Leify was volunteering for Amplifying Education for the summer of 2011, traveling with both of our all-time favorite band - Dispatch.

After three missed chances to meet at Red Rocks in Colorado, Leify and I connected at the show in Berkley, California. Who knows what we talked about (music maybe?), but somehow we became Facebook friends before I went back to do geology work in Nevada while Leify remained the nomadic troubadour.

About a year later when I was planning my tour with Mel Wade, I contacted Leify again to tell him how much I admired his hard work to always be on the road booking shows in new cities, and that I would give him the hook up if ever he wanted to come to Reno. Well, turns out he did. But the dates he wanted were in the middle of our tour...so instead we decided to meet in Seattle and he would tour back down the coast with us. That's right folks, I went on tour with this random guy after meeting him once at a Dispatch concert!

But that meeting inspired a friendship, and a mutual love for each other's music. I am ecstatic to tell you that Leify Green is going to sing on this record, but I am even more excited to have a lifelong friend who shares my same passion for music and for life! Here's to you, Leif!

Day 2 - Dave Berry - Dobro/Lap Steel

Meet Dave Berry. Dave is the band leader of Jellybread, a Reno based Funk/Rock/Soul band that has hit the road hard, playing lots of festivals on the west coast including Guitarfish and High Sierra Music Festival. I met Dave a few years ago when he was hosting an open mic I frequented at The Cantina on the UNR campus. A couple years later I had the opportunity to play with Dave and Jellybread at a fundraising event for the Student Association for International Water Issues (SAIWI). I knew it then that I would host Dave's talent on my first record...but that's just one of many dreams that have come true lately! Check back tomorrow & everyday for more posts about the record and its songs! Pre-order your copy of the album HERE!
